How to Get Unstuck | 120 Seconds to Better Leadership

*video transcript*

Today I just have a really quick tip for everybody. It’s a super good tool for getting unstuck. I had an executive in my practice this weekend, she was just very stuck on finding some of the information that she needed. A perspective that she needed. Some expertise that she didn’t have. She’s new to role and she doesn’t have all the pieces, which most of us don’t.

So, the fastest way to get unstuck if you’re feeling like you can’t move forward and make decisions because there’s information that you’re missing:

1.     Draw your name in a circle

2.     Draw five lines coming out from that circle

3.     Put down the names of five people that you think can help you

We’re all pretty well trained to be independent. Most of us have learned not to ask for too much help, it looks too vulnerable, it looks like we’re weak, and you know we can talk about that another day.

A super-fast “unstick” activity is just draw that fast network. The five people you can go to, the three people that you can go to, who you can ask a couple questions that might get you at least a couple steps down the path. Then at that point there may be other resources that you can see that will help you get further down the path. Anyway, if you’re stuck on something that you’ve just hit a wall and don’t know how to move forward, just list five people that you can connect to that will help you. Works every time.
